Mobs looted shops located at the Eid Ground in the Kofar-Mata area of Kano State, hours after the state government demolished shops there.

Monday marks the third day of the demolitions of buildings the government of Governor Abba Yusuf termed “illegal structures”.

Three of such properties – sold by the administration of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje – have been brought down by Governor Yusuf’s bulldozers.

Nigeria Info learned that the shops were demolished around 2 am, with the mob gathering before dawn.

An eyewitness, Muhammad Rabi’u, was concerned that the mob was unduly taking advantage of the demolition to enrich themselves.

“The government demolished a few shops inside the Eid ground, but the thugs here have taken advantage of it by destroying other shops and taking everything inside,”  he said.

A resident of the area, Ahmed Yusuf, said the doors of some of the shops were removed by the crowd.

“From here, I saw how some of the boys remove the doors, tanks, and other valuables inside the shops. In the end, they will sell it at a cheaper rate,” he said.

The police from Fagge Division, led by its DPO, were at the scene to disperse the rampaging looters as of the time of this report.
