The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, says the ministry has reactivated its laboratories in Nigeria's six geopolitical zones to curtail the spread of cholera.

In his speech on Tuesday at the ongoing Lagos International Water Conference, Utsev discussed "Financing Water and Sanitation for a Greater Lagos."

He said the laboratory facilities will help detect and monitor cholera cases, facilitating prompt responses and more efficient containment strategies.

“This action reflects a proactive approach to public health management and underscores the importance of robust infrastructure in tackling infectious diseases,” he told the conference participants.

Utsev emphasized the need for public education on personal cleanliness, proper water treatment, boiling, and cooking meals and vegetables.

He called on state governors, private sector partners, and development partners to increase funding to the water and sanitation sector.

He assured the states that the federal government will help them with initiatives to improve citizens' access to better sanitation and clean, safe water.
