The FCT Department of Development Control on Tuesday afternoon dislodged a neighborhood roadside market behind the Area 1 Shopping Center, by Police Station.
The illegal market operating around a mosque was suspected to have provided cover to stranded criminals.
The operation, carried out by a combined team of several security agencies, the Development Control team, and the Abuja Environmental Protection Board was part of measures to restore sanity to that part of Abuja city center.
The Director of the Development Control Department, Mukhtar Galadima, said his teams also dislodged illegal car dealers who took over pedestrian walkways within the Area 1 residential district.
The impounded were taken to the offices of the enforcement squad of the FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Service.
Galadima vowed that the roadside market would never be allowed to restart.
He also disclosed that the FCT Administration was working towards providing a permanent solution to open grazing of cattle within Abuja city center.
