The Kano Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Aminu Tsanyawa has confirmed the outbreak of the deadly Diphtheria disease in the state.
The symptoms of the disease, which is reported to have killed about 25 persons in the state, include sore throat, cough, drooling of saliva, change in voice tone, swelling of the neck, abnormal breathing, fever, and mouth odor.
The commissioner said the state’s emergency preparedness committee met on Thursday to evaluate the casualty figure and review the data and measures to address the situation.
The state’s rapid response team has been reactivated to check the spread of the disease and the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital has been designated as an isolation center, with other centers planned soon.
