President Muhammadu Buhari has described the outgoing Secretary-General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Mohammed Barkindo as a worthy ambassador of Nigeria.

President Buhari made the remarks on Tuesday when he received Mr. Barkindo at the State House in Abuja.

The President expressed Nigeria’s gratitude to Mr. Barkindo for his service.

He also directed the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited to mobilize the oil and gas industry and organise a welcome reception in honour of Mr. Barkindo.

The outgoing OPEC scribe attributed his success to President Buhari’s guidance, support from the OPEC Secretariat in Vienna, and the cooperation of the cartel’s member states.

He recounted how President Buhari’s counsel helped in the birthing of the Declaration of Cooperation of OPEC and non-OPEC oil-producing countries after he assumed office in 2016 when oil prices plunged.
