President Muhammadu Buhari has written the Senate seeking the confirmation of seven ministerial nominees.
They are:
- Henry Iko (Abia State)
- Umana Umana (Akwa Ibom)
- Ekuma Joseph (Ebonyi State)
- Goodluck Opiah (Imo State)
- Umar El-Yakub (Kano State)
- Ademola Adegoroye (Ondo State)
- and Odum Odi (Rivers State)
They are to replace ministers who resigned in the first half of May to run for elective offices.
The Ministers of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio; Science, Technology and Innovation, Ogbonnaya Onu; and the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba all resigned to contest in the presidential primary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Uche Ogah; and the Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Chief Tayo Alasoadura also resigned.
