The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Adamawa State to recuse himself from conducting the 15 April re-run governorship election.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said this at a news conference in Abuja.

Ologunagba said Hudu Ari’s continued stay in office was unacceptable.

The party accused the commissioner of complicity in the alleged manipulation of the result of the state governorship election.

“In view of grave allegations and evidence of an audio tape already in the public domain, Ari should recuse himself immediately from superintending and/or conducting the re-run governorship election in Adamawa on April 15,” Ologunagba said.

“The PDP demands that the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu immediately remove Ari as REC in Adamawa,” he continued.

The governorship election conducted in the state on 18 March was declared inconclusive because the number of canceled votes was more than the margin of victory between the top two candidates.

Governor Ahmed Fintiri of the PDP polled 421,524 votes against Aishatu Dahiru of the All Progressive Congress’s 390,275 votes.

The re-run election scheduled for 15 April will take place in 69 Polling Units.
