The National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Nasiru Idris has emerged the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State with 1,055 votes out of the 1,090 votes cast.
Abubakar Gari-Malam polled the remaining 35 votes while Senate Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi got no vote.
Dr. Idris had been the NUT Chairman at the local government and state levels and is currently its National President. He is also the Deputy National Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
Tonye Cole Wins in Rivers
Businessman, Tony Cole was the choice of APC delegates who cast their votes in the governorship primary in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
Mr. Cole polled 986 votes to defeat Ojukai Flagamakere, who came second with 190 votes, and Sukonte Davids who got 49 votes.
Another contestant, Sen. Magnus Abe chose not to take part in the primary citing the adoption of indirect primary which he said did not meet the expected standard.
He later told journalist that he had not dropped his gubernatorial ambition.
‘’I, Sen. Magnus Ngei Abe, will be on that ballot and Rivers people will have the opportunity to choose who shall lead our dear state moving forward,” he said, without revealing how he plans to make that happen.
One Senator Defeats Another in Cross River
It was a battle of Senators in Cross River State.
At the end of the primary, Sen. Sandy Onor, representing the Central Senatorial District defeated Sen. Gershom Bassey, who represents the Southern Senatorial District, to emerge the APC’s governorship candidate.
Sen. Onor got 236 votes to Sen. Bassey’s 175.
Governor Sule Wins in Nasarawa APC Primary
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State had no difficulty winning the APC gubernatorial primary election in his bid for a second term in office.
He polled 698 votes to defeat Fatima Abdullahi, who got three votes.
Dr. Abdullahi congratulated Governor Sule after he was declared the winner of the poll.
Governor Buni Emerges Unopposed in Yobe
Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State won his gubernatorial ticket unopposed for the 2023 election.
890 delegates were accredited for the primary and 825 votes were cast, with 20 being invalid.
In his acceptance speech, Gov. Buni promised to consolidate on his development projects and programmes if re-elected as governor.
