The Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has nullified the elections of 16 House of Assembly candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State.
This follows evidence presented in court that INEC did not monitor the party congresses that produced them as the candidates of the party.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state had sued INEC, the APC, and the party’s 32 House of Assembly candidates, alleging that INEC did not monitor their congresses.
The presiding Judge, Justice Turaki Muhammed said the PDP proved that the congresses that produced 16 of the candidates were not monitored by the electoral umpire.
Justice Muhammed, thereafter, ruled that the candidates were not validly nominated.
