All is set for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Special Convention and Presidential Primary which is taking place June 6 – 8 at the Eagle Square, Abuja.
The convention will help the party’s delegates pick a presidential candidate for the 2023 general election and was initially billed for Sunday 29 May and Monday, 30 May.
It was rescheduled at the dying minute after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) extended the deadline for political parties’ primaries by six days.
On Sunday, the Chairman of the venue/site servicing committee of the convention, Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State told journalists at the Eagle Square that they were making progress.
He is hopeful the primary will be concluded on Tuesday.
“So many people have to come and all the preparation is on course, and we will ensure that by tomorrow (Monday) everything will be completed.
“We don’t want to rush, but the process will start tomorrow, the process will kick-start tomorrow, and by Tuesday, we will finish everything.
“You know the process of electing, you know the process of bringing delegates, you know the process of accreditations; so many processes have to be done,” he said.
As a result of the convention, the FCT Police Command has announced traffic diversion around the Eagles Square.
In a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the command said it has emplaced a security architecture to police the territory within the period and afterward effectively.
She said the diversion and emplacement of other architecture to complement existing ones was in view of the high influx of visitors into the territory.
