The Director of Media and Publicity for the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign, Bayo Onanuga, is worried at how excited some Nigerians were about a tweet referencing president-elect, Bola Tinubu's 1993 money forfeiture to U.S. authorities.

On Monday, the popular Twitter account, Uber Facts, tweeted that Tinubu forfeited $460,000 - over N200 million in today’s exchange rate - to the US government after a court found out the monies were tied to heroin trafficking.

A follow-up tweet had a link to widely circulated court papers and got a lot of Nigerians talking on social media; making the original tweet Uber Fact's most engaged post in 2023 and one it most engaged ever.

Onanuga is wondering why Nigerians are excited about the tweet from an account he described as a junk site notorious for tweeting random falsehood.

The spokesperson for the president-elect's campaign did not dispute the report of his principal forfeiting money to the US.

That report was widely circulated during the presidential campaign in 2022.

It is one of. the basis of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi's petition to disqualify Tinubu and stop his inauguration on 29 May.
