President Bola Tinubu has on Thursday signed into law the bill on uniform retirement age for judicial officers.
In a statement, Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information at State House, said the president vowed to strengthen the judiciary and empower judicial officers.
The bill titled "Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (fifth altercation) (No.37) bill, 2023", is the first bill signed by President Tibunu since taking the oath of office on May 29.
A new law increases the retirement age of high court judges and others from 65 to 70 years.
Likewise, the legislation set uniform pension rights for judges of “superior courts of record” as per section 6(5) of the 1999 constitution (as amended).
