President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council (FEC) have scrapped the Niger Delta Ministry, and the Ministry of Sports Development.
The Council subsequently created the Ministry of Regional Development to coordinate activities of all regional development commissions, such as the North West Development Commission, South-South Development Commission, North-East Development Commission and the Niger Delta Development Commission.

Announcing this to State House Correspondents, Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris
said the Ministry of Sports Development will now be replaced by the National Sports Commission.
“There will now be a ministry of regional development to oversee all the regional development commissions, such as Niger Delta Development Commission, North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission , North East Development Commission.
“The National Sports Commission will take over the role of the Ministry of Sports, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President, Information and Strategy, said in a statement.
He said Council equally ordered the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy.
He urged Nigerians to avoid speculations as only the President has the prerogative to decide who remains as a minister in his cabinet.
Giving further clarification, the Niger Delta Minister, Abubakar Momoh stressed that what FEC did was to expand the scope of regional development especially as it relates to the Niger Delta and other regions.
