President Bola Tinubu will not attend the 79th United Nations General Assembly session in New York this year.

Announcing this in a five paragraph statement on Thursday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga said President Tinubu who returned to Nigeria last Sunday, after a visit to China and the United Kingdom, wants to concentrate on domestic matters as well as address some challenges facing the nation, especially from the recent devastating flooding.

He therefore directed Vice President Shettima to deliver Nigeria's national statement to the General Assembly, at UNGA 79, as well as attend important sideline events, and hold bilateral meetings.

The high-level General Debate is tagged "Leaving no one behind: Acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations."

It will run from the 24th to the 28th of this month.
