The former commissioner for Information and Orientation in Edo State, Andrew Emwanta disclosed that the recently elected candidate for Edo state has a five point agenda to accomplish.
According to him, the five-point agenda prioritizes security, road development, quality healthcare, food security, and education.
“And we are going to deliver all those five pillars of our new Edo is rising agenda,” he said on Morning Crossfire on Wednesday.
On Saturday, September 21, 2024, the people of Edo state in south-south Nigeria elected a new Governor to succeed the incumbent, Godwin Obaseki whose constitutional eight-years double terms will end on November 12,2024.
The total number of registered voters in Edo State is 2,629,025, with 4,519 polling units in the state where voting took place.
The APC candidate ( Monday Okpebholo) won the election in eleven of the eighteen local governments with 291,667 votes, while the PDP candidate ( Asue Ighodalo) secured victory in the remaining seven local governments with 247,274 votes.
Olumide Akpata, the candidate of the Labour Party came a distant third with 22,763 votes.
On Sunday, September 22,2024, the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) declared Monday Okpebholo, candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC) , winner of the election.
According to Emwanta, the election was not manipulated, but rather a mandate delivered by the majority of the Edo people.
“it’s a mandate to develop Edo State, it’s a mandate to make life better for our people, it’s a mandate to liberate our people from what we use to have as government that spend so much of state resources engaging consultants,” he said.
“So We are taking governance back to our people, and we must as a matter of fact try to give a human face to governance and that is the pledge we made during the campaigns.
He continued by saying that “the Governor we have in Edo state we voted against is a pdp government that failed woefully.
“A pdp government that made our health sector look like a leprose system.
“A system where schools were abandoned.
“Our candidate promised that within the first 100 days of his becoming Governor, he’s going to employ 5000 teachers.
“These are practical things he has said and by the grace of God we are going to fulfil them.”
“It a new dawn in Edo, we are going to transform our state,” he added.
