FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has announced the revocation of 165 plots of land in highbrow districts of Nigeria's capital belonging to notable individuals and corporations.
The plots were revoked due to the refusal or failure of their allottees to develop them, according to a notice signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Administration on Thursday night.
Some of the plots revoked in Maitama district A05 had documents with the names of prominent Nigerians like the former governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke. Others are Musa Aboki Egu, Hassan Hadejia, and Ishaya Baba.
In Jabi, some of the plots revoked had allottees like the late publisher, Sam Nda-Isaiah, and Donubari Josephine Kogbara; while Katampe District had the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Gregory Obi, and the conglomerate, BUA International.
Others are Julius Berger Nigeria, Honeywell Construction, Uffot Joseph Ekaette, Shittu Mohammed, Udoma Udo Udoma, Kanu Agabi, Niki Niki Tobi, and Ishaku Bello.
A breakdown of the revocation notice shows that 41 plots were revoked in Katampe alone, while Katampe Extension, Wuse 2, Jabi, Utako, Idu Industrial zone, and Asokoro had the second highest revocation of 39 plots.
On assumption of office, Wike vowed to restore the master plan of the Federal Capital Territory and revoke undeveloped plots or those with years of unpaid ground rents.
He subsequently gave a two-week grace to allottees to pay their ground rents or risk revocation of their allocations.
