Nigeria now has a new ministry - the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development.

President Bola Tinubu revealed this at the Council Chamber in the State House, Abuja while inaugurating the Presidential Committee on Livestock Reforms on Tuesday.

The committee is tasked with providing recommendations that would help bring about better economic well-being and security for Nigerians and harmony between farmers and herders.

The President would chair the committee on Livestock Development, with Attahiru Jega - former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) - as the Deputy Chairman.

Recall that 10 months ago, the president consented to establishing the presidential committee to address herders and farmers’ clashes and bolster livestock and dairy industries.

This was in the wake of the report from the National Conference on Livestock Reforms and Mitigation of Associated Conflicts in Nigeria, which had recommended creating a Ministry of Livestock Resources, amongst 20 other recommendations.
