A Federal High Court in Abuja has stopped the impeachment of the Deputy Governor of Ondo State.

Justice Emeka Nwite in his ruling on Tuesday restrained the Ondo State House of Assembly from removing Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa on the grounds of alleged gross misconduct.

According to Nwite, it would be in the interest of justice to grant the move for an ex-parte motion as moved by Kayode Adewusi, counsel to the deputy governor.

Justice Nwite also stopped the Governor of the state, Rotimi Akeredolu from nominating and sending to lawmakers for approval the name of a new deputy governor for the state.

Lucky Aiyedatiwa in his application to the court had sought a restraining order against his impeachment by the state house of assembly pending the hearing and determination of the suit filed in the court on Monday.

In addition, Justice Nwite further issued an order that prevents the state governor and his aides from in any way stopping the current deputy governor from carrying out his duties as assigned by his office.
