The Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned until 3 March for the continuation of the hearing and judgment on the case against the naira redesign policy.
The seven-man panel of the apex court led by Justice John Okoro fixed the date after hearing motions for joinders in the case.
The suit was initially instituted by Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara States and they sought to restrain the federal government from implementing the deadline on the use of old N200, N500, and N1,000 notes.
On 8 February, the Supreme Court restrained the Central Bank of Nigeria from executing the deadline.
The Attorney General of the Federation, thereafter, approached the apex court, asking it to dismiss the states’ suit.
Seven other states joined Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara as co-plaintiffs in the case while two states joined as co-defendants.
At the hearing on Wednesday, six more states joined the suit as co-plaintiffs and prayed the court not grant the requests of the defendants but allow the use of the old naira notes.
The six states are Rivers, Kano, Niger, Jigawa, Nasarawa, and Abia; making a total of 16 states as co-plaintiffs.
They are arguing that the implementation of the naira redesign policy has caused untold hardship for Nigerians.
