The Director General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign, Doyin Okupe has resigned.
Okupe made his decision known in a statement addressed to his principal and the Presidential Candidate of his party, Peter Obi.
He said his decision to resign is to enable him to seek justice and clear his name. Okupe pleaded with Obi to appoint a new DG who would continue the work with "zero distraction”.
Recall that Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of a Federal High Court, Abuja had on Monday convicted and sentenced Okupe to 2 years imprisonment after finding him guilty of 26 out of a 59-count charge preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Justice Ojukwu, however, ruled that the 26 counts, which attracted a 2-year jail term each, would run concurrently, meaning the convict would only spend two years in prison.
She also gave an option of N500,000 in each count, amounting to N13 million, which must be paid before 4:30 pm (the close of work) on Monday.
Doyin Okupe paid the sum of N13 million for the 2-year jail term bagged for a N240 million money laundering offence.
