The Lagos State government says its proposed Fourth Mainland Bridge would be completed within four years.
The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Works, Aramide Adeyoye, announced CCECC-CRCCIG Consortium as the preferred contractor for the $2.5 billion project at a news conference on Friday.
The consortium won the bid for the public-private partnership project ahead of Mota-Engil (Nigeria and Africa), China Communication Construction Company, and CRBC Consortium, which emerged as reserve bidders.
Fifty-two bidders were interested in the project, but only 32 were responsive.
Adeyoye said 15 of the 32 bidders indicated further interest, with six of them meeting the criteria.
The number was further pruned to three before the emergence of the winner.
Eight hundred structures will be demolished to make way for the construction of the 37km bridge, which would have three toll plazas and nine interchanges.
It will start from Abraham Adesanya in Ajah, pass through Owutu/Isawo, Ikorodu, and some parts of Ogun State, and terminate on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The project will be funded by the Lagos State government and the preferred bidder, which would be granted a 40-year plan to operate and maintain the bridge and recoup its investment.
The bridge is expected to reduce traffic on the Carter, Eko, and Third Mainland Bridges that connect Lagos island to the mainland.
