The fuel queues witnessed in Lagos last week continued into the new week with many filling stations out of stock, leading to closures and long lines at the few stations still dispensing.
Most filling stations along Ikorodu Road did not operate on Sunday and Monday.
However, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) filling station and the Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company (NIPCO) at Fadeyi Bus-Stop along Ikorodu Road had long queues.
The Mobil Station near Salami Shaibu in Somolu Metropolis closed due to chaos, while only Total, Northwest, and NNPCL stations were operational in other places like Bank Anthony Way in Ikeja, all of which had long lines on Monday.
Some petrol stations along Lekki-Epe were shut down Monday morning due to the unavailability of fuel.
Black marketers exploited the situation, selling petrol in cans on Ikorodu Road, Maryland, Gbagada, and Ogba.
The president of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association, Billy Gillis-Harry, said the petrol scarcity is caused by challenges in transferring fuel from ship to ship.
As a result, oil retailers are supply-constrained and can only distribute what they have, he added.
He warned that Nigeria would continue the fuel scarcity cycle if the supply challenges are not sorted out.
Motorists and commuters are, meanwhile, frustrated by the fuel shortage, which has resulted in long queues and a significant increase in transport fares across Lagos.
