A fire has destroyed the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The building was “extensively damaged” according to a statement from INEC’s National Commissioner & Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye.
Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) and registration machines for the national Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) were not torched because they were stored in fireproof cabinets.
The incident happened around 11 pm Monday and is being investigated by the police and the fire service, according to the statement.
