President Muhammadu Buhari will be delivering a live broadcast Sunday, 12 June, in commemoration of Democracy Day.

The 7 am broadcast will be shown on major television stations in Nigeria.

Nigeria’s Democracy Day used to be observed annually on 29 May until 2018 when President Buhari announced a change in the date to 12 June.

“I am delighted to announce that, after due consultations, the Federal Government has decided that henceforth, June 12 will be celebrated as Democracy Day,” Buhari had said in a statement released on 6 June 2018.

The date change was to honour the late Chief M.K.O. Abiola who is acknowledged as the winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election.
