The National Counter Terrorism Centre has praised Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State for his proactive stance and strong commitment to tackling insecurity in the region.
A high-level delegation from the centre visited the governor on Thursday at the council chamber of the Government House in Gusau, where both parties discussed ongoing security strategies.
Governor Lawal welcomed the visit and reiterated his belief that resolving Zamfara’s security issues would significantly reduce insecurity across the northern region.
“If you make a conscious effort to handle Zamfara effectively as far as insecurity is concerned, you will solve 80% of the security challenges in the North,” the governor said.
He further assured the team of his administration’s willingness to work closely with the Counter Terrorism Centre and provide counterpart funding for any foreign-supported initiative, including one already set aside by the European Union.
“In Zamfara, we are ever ready to provide the counterpart funding. If you are ready tomorrow, we are ready,” Lawal added.
“We are ready, and our door is open. Anything that will bring positive changes to Zamfara is welcome.”
The visit was led by the Head of Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism, Ambassador Mairo Musa Abbas, who spoke on behalf of the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the National Counter Terrorism Coordinator, Maj.-Gen. Adamu Garba Laka.
Ambassador Abbas said: “We are here as part of the strategic nationwide advocacy engagement. We want to thank you for your hospitality and leadership. We look forward to collaborating to ensure that Zamfara becomes a beacon of hope in the fight against banditry.”
The Counter Terrorism Centre is expected to continue working with the state to provide strategic direction for military, law enforcement, and intelligence operations across the region.
