Nigeria's President, Muhammadu Buhari, says that the 2023 elections have demystified money politics in the country.
President Buhari made this assertion during a meeting with the newly-installed Emir of Dutse, Jigawa State Capital, Muhammad Hamim Nuhu Sunusi at the State House in Abuja,
A statement made available by his media aide, Garba Shehu, also pointed out his admiration for the maturity and sophistication of Nigerian voters, citing the failure of 10 governors in their senatorial bid as evidence that power truly belongs to the people.
The President further stated that the ordinary citizen, who is usually underrated in politics, has demonstrated a deep understanding of political affairs.
Buhari expressed shock at the assumption that a governor would naturally progress to become a senator to crown their career. He emphasized that this is no longer a guaranteed outcome, and that the Nigerian voter should no longer be underestimated.
The President predicted that politics would become more difficult in the future due to the increasing political awareness and sophistication of voters in Nigeria.
