Anambra Community Protests Dethronement of Monarch

The people of Owelle community in Anambra West Council Area besieged the State Government House, Awka on Tuesday in protest against the removal of their traditional ruler, Igwe Anthony Onyekwere.

The monarch was dethroned by the former Governor, Willie Obiano after 15 years of rulership.

He was replaced with Raymond Onoja.

During the protest, the former President-General of Owelle, Chief Peter Udeora, said they were surprised when they on the news that their traditional ruler had been replaced without any crime being committed.

He noted that the former Governor’s action was against their culture and tradition.

The protesters called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to restore the Certificate of Authority to their former Igwe (monarch).

In his response, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu assured that the government would look into their demand.
