Federal Government Orders Suspension of Dana Air’s Operations

Nigeria’s aviation minister, Festus Keyamo, has ordered the grounding of Dana Air’s fleet following the mishap by the carrier’s plane at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.

The minister directed the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to halt the airline’s operations in a letter released on Wednesday 24 April and signed by the aviation ministry’s permanent secretary, Emmanuel Meribole.

“The Honourable Minister has directed that you immediately initiate the suspension of Dana Airline’s fleet until a comprehensive audit can be conducted,” Keyamo stated in the letter to the NCAA.

This audit should encompass all aspects of safety protocols, maintenance procedures, and financial health to ensure full compliance with our aviation regulations.”

On Tuesday, a Dana Air plane overshot the runway as it attempted to land at the Lagos airport.

This forced authorities to close the airport and divert local flights to the international terminal.

The airport was reopened later on Tuesday and Dana Air said nobody was hurt.
